Azure has arrived in Vietnam, and you’re wondering how to register so you can use it, completely free?
This post shows you how to register, from the simplest way to the ways available when you have a DreamSpark account or an MSDN Subscription

2.1. Registering through the DreamSpark program (Azure for Student)
DreamSpark is a program for all students worldwide (that’s right, all students) that gives Microsoft products and services to students completely free. There are 2 ways to register for DreamSpark: 1, your school is registered with Microsoft, or 2, you have an international student card
2.1.1. Getting the DreamSpark activation code
2.1.1.1. Your school is registered with Microsoft
Go to your school’s DreamSpark link (it usually starts with e5.onthehub.com)
Sign in there
After signing in you see the list of free software Microsoft provides. Pick the Other (1) section. There is only 1 product in it — click it
Pick Add to Card, then hit Check out to “order” the activation code product
Once you have the code, go to http://dreamspark.com and click the Azure box as in the picture below
On the page that opens, click the orange button to sign in or register a DreamSpark account
2.1.1.2. Creating a DreamSpark account
First you have to sign in to your Microsoft account
After signing in, fill in all your information and hit continue to verify
There are many verification methods, but the simplest is to verify with the code you got earlier
Copy each code box from your school’s DreamSpark and paste it into the verification page
When you get a message like the one below, your DreamSpark registration succeeded — but remember to check your mail to activate it
If your school registered its domain with Microsoft, you can do the following instead
If that doesn’t work, try verifying with the email your school gave you. This is the fastest way, but only some fancy schools have it (FPT, for example)
On top of that, you can also use an international student card; register for one here: http://www.isic.com.vn/
Once you’ve finished activating from the email, go back to this link to register for Azure: https://www.dreamspark.com/Product/Product.aspx?productid=99
When registering through DreamSpark you won’t be asked for a credit card.
After filling in all the information, hit Sign up, and that’s it :3
2.2. Registering on your own (not through DreamSpark or an MSDN Subscription)
Go to http://www.microsoft.com/vietnam/azure/pricing/free-trial.aspx > Try it now
You’ll be asked to sign in to your Microsoft account. Go ahead and sign in. If you don’t have a Microsoft account yet (an email ending in @hotmail, @outlook, @live), you should register one to enjoy Microsoft’s services
- Check the account you signed in with
- Set Country to Vietnam (VERY IMPORTANT)
- Enter your home phone number
- Enter your mobile number
- Hit the Send text message button
The next thing to do is sit and watch your phone. Wait for a text like this one
Type this code into the new box that appears on the web page
The 3rd section shows up: fill in your credit card information and click Sign up
Why is a credit card needed? According to the description, this credit card information is only collected to verify your identity. No money will be charged. You should fill in every piece of information you can
Once registration is done, seeing a welcome screen like this means it worked.
This number is how many days you get Azure free, with a full 200 USD during those 29 days to use/test all of Azure’s services :3
2.3. Registering through the MSDN Subscription program
To register through an MSDN Subscription you of course need an MSDN Subscription account. Vietnamese MSPs have this account package, named MSDN Subscription with Visual Studio Ultimate, worth a mere 13,600 USD for one year (that’s right, thirteen thousand six hundred obamas)
For some reason Microsoft put the MSDN Subscription in a very hard-to-find place: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/subscriptions/aa336858.aspx. Go to this link and sign in with your account.
Pick My Account > Activate Microsoft Azure
In the phone number box, pick Vietnam and enter your phone number, dropping the leading 0
Then wait for the text :D
Once verification is done you’ll see the status completed. Poke I agree … > Purchase
And that’s it
